We as a board are excited to present our Law and Ethics training for this year.  Why is a Law and Ethics Training so Important?

As I am sure anyone reading this understands, we are governed by both legal and ethical standards.  As clinicians, it is important for us to consider and if necessary, consult, on legal and/or ethical dilemmas.  We make daily decisions and we need to rely heavily on these trainings to keep us apprised of the latest laws and regulations.

One of the changes in our world, our digital world, is an important part of the decision-making process today.   The training that we are hosting this month, by Dr. Maelisa Hall addresses our ethical and legal standards in this digital age that we are all navigating.    She herself has a strong online presence and will guide us on how to manage our documentation using today’s technology. Her learning objectives, will help us to gain confidence as clinicians in today’s modern age.

Please take the time to sign up for our training.  The link is included along with the description of this month’s training in the newsletter and in the announcements which are sent out.

One other thing, our board could use some help.  Both our hospitality, and our set-up and tear down crew need your help.  If you are willing to help, please contact one of the board members and we would be more than happy to welcome you as a volunteer.  We are growing, and with growth comes the need for more help.  Would you please consider stepping up and being a part of our team?  Thank you for considering filling in this gap for us.

Welcome to the New Year 2020.  I believe this is going to be a great year, a year where we as therapists can make a big difference with the populations that we serve, wherever we serve them.  We have many great trainings coming up this year, including a Law and Ethics seminar that addresses this digital age in a very specific way.  With the world changing so fast, I think this training is more important than ever.  I would suggest registering as soon as possible for this training, as the rate for members is going up again tomorrow, and as I expect it to be sold out and possibly the very reason that we may outgrow our current location.  Growth is a good thing.  In the meantime, please sign up for our wonderful topic in January, Understanding Current Trends in Modern Parenting and the Implications for Children and Families Seeking Therapy.  Be on the watch for videos that interview our speakers and please share them with your local Facebook groups as well as those therapist groups that may benefit from learning about our speakers.  As there are so many social media forums: Instagram, Twitter, Twitch, Linked-In, Pinterest, etc. please do not hesitate to share our links in the media with which you are most comfortable.  We at IE-CAMFT look forward to growth in this coming year.  Please invite your clinical friends,  We are not limited to MFTs, but also welcome CSWs as well as PCCs.to join an organization that is passionate about teaching, networking, and supporting our fellow clinicians.

Welcome to 2020.  Let’s make this a great year!

Now that we are reaching the end of the year, all of us hopefully enjoying our holidays with our families and friends, I wanted to take this moment and look back to this year and the many things that have been accomplished at IE-CAMFT.

    • ·         We reached our goal of 200+ members.  As we grow, we are considering moving nearby to a bigger location to accommodate our growing membership.
    • ·         Our webmistress has revamped our website, There are many features available for members and guests.  She has done an amazing job. Please check it out at www.ie-camft.org
    • ·         We have automated our seminar evaluations and certificates.
    • ·         We have gone to a new payment processor that allows members and guests to pay with any credit card, rather than having to have a PayPal account.
    • ·         We have had many diverse and interesting trainings.  These trainings offering anything from 2-CEU’s to 6-CEU’s help us as clinicians to stay on the pulse of the latest subject matter.  These trainings included:
    • A Twin’s Dialetic: Being Noticed or Being Known; Law and Ethics: Tough calls, moral dilemmas, technology and more; How do I talk to my grieving client?  The stuff to know and the words not to use; Deep TMC and Beyond; Camft Update 2019, the State of the Profession; Mindful Choices for Well-Being; Music Therapy: A Binaural Frontier: the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music (GIM); Decoding Teens; Author’s Gathering; EMDR: healing unprocessed memories that create disturbance and dysfunction; and At the intersection of Depth Psychology and Self Care: An Alternative New Lens on Motivational Interviewing.   We hope you were able to attend many of our trainings.  We look forward to presenting more stimulating seminars in 2020.
    • ·         We expanded our marketing strategies to include a YouTube channel in addition to visiting local colleges, other events, video interviews with our presenters, and continued posting on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

Enjoy the Holidays, we look forward to seeing you next year at our next training on January 28, 2020: Understanding Current Trends in Modern Parenting and the Implications for Children and Families Seeking Therapy.

We are at the beginning of the holiday season.  I am sure some of you will be taking vacations and trips to see your family.  Possibly your work hours will change throughout this holiday season.  It most definitely is a whirlwind of plans and get-togethers.  We as an organization will celebrate with our IE-CAMFT Holiday Party on December 14th open to chapter members. Will you be attending?  Remember self-care includes enjoying the holidays with family, friends, and co-workers.  We look forward to seeing you at our next training in two weeks and possibly at the IE-CAMFT Holiday Party on December 14th.

    Hello IE-CAMFT Members:

I wanted to bring your attention to our Authors and Program Providers Gathering on October 25th from 8:30am-12 noon.  This event will run concurrently with our October Training on EMDR: healing unprocessed memories that create disturbance and dysfunction.  The authors event will include several authors and program providers and as an added bonus this year we are asking you to bring gently used field-related books to swap out with others’ contributions.  You will have an opportunity to visit with the authors, buy their books, before and after the training if you are attending the seminar; if you aren’t attending the seminar, you may attend the authors gathering at any time between 8:30 and 12.  Learning about new subject matter to add to our libraries is always good for new resources.  Don’t forget the holidays will be here before you know it, consider this also as an opportunity to shop for your holidays for your friends and family.

As a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist and a business owner, I have the privilege of working with clinicians that include associates and practicum students.  I remember the daunting task toward that dream of attaining 3000 hours.  It is so easy to let anxiety creep in, “Will I get my hours, when will I get my hours, how will I survive financially, will I pass the tests?” can take you to a place of fear.  At times it could cause you to forget why you are on this path, the path to make a difference in the lives of the populations with whom you work.  For those of you reading this and resonating with what I am saying, try to trust in the process, one hour at a time.  You will get there.  That isn’t the end of the journey, but the beginning of another one.  This is a season in your life that you may even miss some day.  Remember life happens during the journey, not when the goal is attained.

It is an interesting time of the year.  Summer.  A great time to take some time for you and your family and friends to enjoy each other. You know that thing we teach to our clients called self-care? Depending where you work, whether private practice or any type of agency, whether you take insurance or are private pay, you may see fewer clients during this time.  After all, many of them are on vacation too.  As with any business, there are busier times than others.  If you can, start to prepare for those times, as these times will likely happen.  Remember that as clinicians, managing our own stressors comes first, so we can continue to help our various populations to heal.  Enjoy your summer.

This is Carol Rose Adkisson, your newly-elected IE-CAMFT Chapter President.  Thank you for entrusting me to lead our organization into this new season.  I hope that along with our newly-elected board we will bring a fresh new perspective to our new positions.  My vision is to grow IE-CAMFT to the next level.  I have no doubt this is attainable.  Like all of us in our new positions, I am grateful to have our predecessors passing down their experience and knowledge.  Look for new marketing techniques, amazing education, and growth in our future.  The sky is the limit and limitless possibilities can only be a good thing.
