Happy May, everyone! First of all let me say that I am honored and excited to be serving as your local chapter president.  I hope you will join me in welcoming our new slate of board officers, as well.  We have a wonderful group of creative professionals who are committed to supporting MFTs throughout the Inland Empire.  I would also like to remind you all that you are welcome to attend an IE-CAMFT board meeting at any time.  They are held every fourth Friday of the month, after the monthly training.  We would love to have you participate and share your thoughts and ideas with us.

As usual, our program committee is working hard to coordinate trainings aimed at further developing professional skills and maintaining top-notch ethical and legal standards of care in the Inland Empire therapeutic community.  In our most recent IE-CAMFT sponsored presentation: “Creative Therapy for Adolescents: Brain-Based Approaches that Enhance Emotional Regulation and Resilience,” Georgie Wisen-Vincent provided us with invaluable insight on adolescents and brain development, as well as how this connects to parenting and providing therapeutic interventions.  In May we look forward to learning more about hoarding from Carol Rose Adkisson’s presentation: “Step (Carefully) Inside the Secret Life of Hoarders.”  We hope to see you there!

Happy New Year!!  Hope all of you were able to enjoy time with family and friends.  If not, now is the time to catch up on time with friends, family and adopted family.  Maybe learning to do something better could be more intriguing as a New Year's Resolution instead of the usual.

I just received as a present a ceramic cup listing "O Holy Night" and "Shepherds Flocked At The Sight".  It refers  not to a Bible verse but to the words of the song "Silent Night," which include "Shepherds Quaked At The Sight." But no Shepherds Flocked.  Does this mean shepherds cuddling together with the sheep?  Maybe.  It is listed as made in China, so perhaps the translation was lacking.  Well, here's  to flocking!!

Merry Christmas!! Hope you IE-CAMFT members will join us for the Holiday Party on December 9th, Saturday at 6pm.

Where: 1898 Business Center Drive, San Bernardino, CA 92408

    Who will be there:

Carol Adkisson: Written from the perspective of a patient and clinician, Recovering My Life – A personal bariatric story is a raw reflection of weight loss using bariatric surgery as a tool.  The book explores the emotional reasons for compulsive over eating and reveals the rarely shared truth from this writer’s perspective.

The companion book, Recovering My Life – Your Story – guides the reader through the process of discovering how their relationship with food negatively affected every aspect of their life. The workbook/journal brings them face to face with how they used food to mask their emotional brokenness.

Relationship Café Presents:  Your Passion  ~  Your Vision  ~  Your Life

Have you ever felt as though you are on autopilot, floating through life with no sense of direction?  Do you have a difficult time setting goals?  Or, do you feel as though you are not accomplishing the goals you have set and aren’t where you’d like to be in your life?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this class is for you.

Join us for this 4-day class, where attendees will learn how to explore, plan, create, and live their passion.

In this interactive, hands on class, attendees will:

Lolita M. Domingue : Emotional Transformation Therapy is an interactive ecological psychotherapy originated by Steven R. Vazquez, Ph.D. in the 1990’s. It is a synthesis of attachment-based interpersonal therapy that is radically amplified by precise visual brain stimulation where the light enters the eyes and photosensitive cells convert light into neural impulses. Many of these impulses affect parts of the brain beyond the visual cortex to control thoughts, emotions, and physical symptoms. By selecting precise forms of visual brain stimulation, the neural impulses are directed to rapidly change the parts of the brain responsible for the client’s disturbance.

Wow!  Thanksgiving will be this month already.  Hope all of you can come to the author and event presentation before Thanksgiving week.  We wish all the authors wonderful conversations and many books sold!!  Don't forget to attend the presentation on essential oils as well.

Just an idea for this Christmas season: make a list of those to whom you want to give gifts and in order to be more organized, list what you already have purchased first.  I'll need to sign off and take my own advice.

Here's wishing you meaningful times loving your family, friends and adopted family (and not too much concern about whether your house is perfect).

    Janetta

I hope everyone is having a fun (and sometimes relaxing) summer.  If you haven't had enough relaxing, catch up soon.  We're already in August!  My kids just turned 21 and 18 so I should be an expert on adulting so!  We learn new things as we traipse along.

Your Board met for the Board Retreat in July.  We were guests of Keyvan in her lovely home.  Individual shoulder massages were provided for everyone by Jennifer and Persian food was catered for lunch.  We worked on updating the bylaws, which will be going before you for a vote soon. Amanda led us in a drum circle (do you still call it a drum line?) before we headed for home.  Noticed Carol and Jeanne were especially energized.  Perhaps Amanda can show us more drumming soon...  We explored improving or creating what all of us in the chapter do for the year.  More to come!
