Effective Co-Parenting Strategies

Dr. Jenna Flowers, LMFT

With the divorce rate in America at over 50 percent, effective co-parenting continues to be more relevant than ever.  Learn how to help your clients understand the challenges and strengths in co-parenting. This presentation will guide you in understanding the key developmental needs for children specific to co-parenting families, create an effective parenting plan for co-parents who want to be intentional in their parenting, and how to assist them to continue to foster a secure connection with their children.  This seminar will also guide clinicians on how to work with clients needing practical and effective communication strategies to help reduce conflict and how to help them focus on partnering well in raising healthy children.

This seminar highlights what conscious co-parenting is and strategies on how to partner as co-parents in raising healthy and securely-attached children. It will provide an understanding of specific needs of co-parented children at every developmental stage, creating a co-parenting plan with your co-parent, managing resentments in co-parenting, and promoting effective communication strategies in co-parenting.

Objectives:

  1. Understand the challenges and strengths in co-parenting.
  2. Identify key developmental needs specific to co-parenting.
  3. Learn tools for creating a conscious co-parenting plan.
  4. Review strategies to manage resentments and increase communication in co-parenting.

AT OUR LAST MEETING . . .

We had the July IE-CAMFT Board Retreat at Keyvan's gracious home and it was very relaxing and productive.  We did some garden walking meditation, drumming, and self-care, and reworked the IE-CAMFT bylaws to bring them more up-to-date.  We will be adding some finishing touches to the bylaws at the August board meeting, which any member may attend, and then sharing them with the membership on the website prior to the needed ratifying vote by the membership at the September meeting.  Be sure to check the "News" page  of the "Members Only" section on the website for the changes, where you may weigh in with any questions or comments.  Don't forget to log in, in order to access the "Members Only" section.

President's Message:

I hope everyone is having a fun (and sometimes relaxing) summer.  If you haven't had enough relaxing, catch up soon.  We're already in August! My kids just turned 21 and 18 so I should be an expert on adulting so! We learn new things as we traipse along.

Your Board met for the Board Retreat in July.  We were guests of Keyvan in her lovely home.  Individual shoulder massages were provided for everyone by Jennifer, and Persian food was catered for lunch.  We worked on updating the bylaws, which will be going before you for a vote soon. We ended with Amanda leading us in a drum circle (do you still call it a drumline?) before we headed for home.  Noticed Carol and Jeanne were especially energized.  Perhaps Amanda can show us more drumming soon... We explored improving or creating what all of us in the chapter do for the year.  More to come!

Janetta Peltz, IE-CAMFT President
