Description

Pregnancy and infant loss, presented by Courtney Whetstone, LMFT. The presentation will discuss why pregnancy and infant loss is an important topic. Information on frequency, different types of losses, and options for how to include loss in your intake process will be presented. Research and publications vary greatly with cultural, socio-economic, unique rituals, ceremonies, and subtle considerations. Specific skills to be discussed include considerations for including loss in intake processes, grief work, and statements that are not helpful. More direct case reviews will illuminate timelines, goodbye letters and other treatment options. Please note that this program may include information that stems from an ectopic pregnancy. After traditional grief training with Jill Johnson Young, Ms. Whetstone realized she wanted to be the one to give others services. She will share her experience developing a support group. OBJECTIVES: 1. Attendees will learn how to include loss in intake processes 2.Specific communication skills will be cited for talking to clients about loss 3. Four interventions that are beneficial, or possibly counter-productive will be cited 4. Therapists will learn how this event benefits from adapted grief work ABOUT THE PRESENTER: Courtney Whetstone had an ectopic pregnancy last year and realized that there was no resource to help. "I did a grief training with Jill Johnson Young, LCSW and realized that I wanted to be the one to give others what I was not able to get myself. So between my personal experience as well as with information from Jill's training, I came up with my support group and I see people individually as well."
