Creating a Safe Space for LGBT Clients

An LGBTQ client schedules an appointment with you. You’re thinking, "What do I do? How do I attune? What’s different about them? What’s the same? What do I need to know? Will I understand them? How do I make them feel comfortable?" For answers to all these questions - and more - come to this workshop!
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand similarities and differences between heterosexual and LGBT individuals /clients
2. Understand common LGBT terminology and labels
3. Some of the common issues faced in the lesbian, bisexual, gay, transgender, and "queer" community.
4. How to feel comfortable with LGBT clients and ways to create a safe environment for LGBT clients to feel seen, heard, and understood.
Yisraela Hayman, M.A is a Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist and has a private practice in Beverly Hills where she sees individuals, couple & families. She is a graduate of Antioch University LGBTQ specialization and is trained in LGBTQ Affirmative Psychotherapy. She is an AACAST certified couples and sex therapist. She is also trained in EMDR & TRI and works with many clients who have PTSD and/or developmental trauma. She is also a clinical group supervisor at Southern California Counseling Center and also provides individual case consultation for both licensed and unlicensed professionals.

CEU Hours: This course meets the qualifications for 2 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs, and LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
Certificates: Completion certificates will be awarded at the conclusion of the training and upon participant’s submission of his or her completed evaluation.
Refund Policy: If a participant is unable to attend and notifies IE-CAMFT 24 hours in advance of the training, full reimbursement will be sent within ten (10) working days.
Grievance: If any aspect of the training is not to the full satisfaction of any participant, please notify the coordinator, CEU committee chair, or another IE-CAMFT board member. We hope to resolve any issue immediately on-site. If not resolved, the full IE-CAMFT board will review and resolve the issue.
