Since my last newsletter in January, our chapter has continued to grow, evolve, and strengthen in meaningful ways. It is truly an honor to serve as your President and to witness the dedication, leadership, and heart within our IE-CAMFT community.
Recently, members of our Board attended the2026 Chapter Leadership Conferencein San Diego. The experience was energizing and reflective, offering us space to evaluate how we can continue leading with integrity, inclusivity, and vision.
A central theme of this year’s conference wasDiversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI)— and the responsibility chapters carry to move beyond statements into sustained, measurable action. We explored practical strategies to ensure our spaces uplift clinicians across race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, immigration status, disability, faith background, socioeconomic position, theoretical orientation, and stage of career.
We also focused on:
Strengthening member engagement through intentional listening and transparent communication
Building mentorship pathways for emerging leaders
Expanding accessibility within our programming
Enhancing collaborative decision-making and sustainable leadership transitions
Our commitment remains clear:IE-CAMFT is not only a professional organization — it is a community. And community requires care, responsiveness, and courage.
Celebrating Outstanding Leadership
One of the highlights of the conference was celebrating one of our very own,Dr. Jane Akponye, who received theOutstanding Leadership Award.
Dr. Akponye’s dedication, wisdom, and service reflect the very spirit of IE-CAMFT. We are incredibly proud and grateful for her leadership and the example she continues to set for our chapter.
Second Annual Therapy Book Fair
We were also honored to host ourSecond Annual Therapy Book Fair, bringing together talented authors, clinicians, students, and community members.
A heartfelt thank you to our organizer,Wandalyn, whose thoughtful coordination created a vibrant and welcoming space. Events like this remind us that our profession is not only clinical — it is creative, relational, and deeply rooted in storytelling and shared knowledge.
We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to our generous sponsor,Celina Perez from Newport Healthcare, for sponsoring the food during our Therapy Book Fair. Your support helped create a warm and welcoming environment for our authors, members, and community guests. We truly appreciate your partnership and commitment to supporting our local clinical community.
