Course meets the qualifications for 2 hours of continuing education credit for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCs and/or LEPs as required by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences.  Registrants must attend the full 2 hours to receive CEs..

We will explore the complex and dynamic intersectionality of otherness, imposter syndrome, and power through the lens of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles and apply these ideas in professional settings. We will discuss the importance of embracing diversity, empowering voices, and elevating therapeutic practice with an unwavering commitment to justice, clinical fidelity, and evidence based practices.

After the presentation the audience will be able to:

1) Recognize ideas related to power and understand the concept of Otherness

2) Identify how these concepts are always present and understand their relationship to DEIAJ

3) Recall two key principles of Otherness, Power

4) Demonstrate 3 situations and how to interact ... in the clinical setting, in social situations, and in the relationship as supervisors, trainees, or associates.

My name is Dr. Juan Gavidia, LMFT. I’m the founder of Cicada Therapy & Consulting, a private practice that demystifies the experience of marginalization and alienation that have led to many of our social ills and mental suffering. I am also an adjunct professor at Pepperdine University for the Master’s in Clinical Psychology program. I have been a member of the CAMFT State Board since 2020. During my tenure on the board, I played a pivotal role in advancing discussions on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, and Justice (DEIAJ), enhancing CAMFT's capacity to attract and retain a robust pipeline of aspiring clinicians and future leaders within our field. My unwavering commitment to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion has been a cornerstone of my contributions to CAMFT and extends throughout my professional and personal endeavors. During my time at CAMFT, I have served on various committees, including the DEI+ committee, external affairs committee, scope of practice committee, strategic planning committee, and social policy committee, which has provided me with invaluable opportunities to drive meaningful change and champion initiatives that promote inclusivity and justice for all.

Inland Empire Chapter of CAMFT is approved by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists to sponsor continuing education for LMFTs, LCSWs, LPCCS, AND/or LEPs. IE-CAMFT maintains responsibility for this program/course and its content. CE Provider # 62278
